Not only did we enjoy spending time at the beautiful campgrounds, but we also enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of the Oorah family. Everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to! We learned so much about Judaism, including Shabbos, Shavuos, and Judaism in general. The speakers were very inspirational and their passion for Torah was contagious! This experience has truly motivated us to become more observant and learn more Torah! Additionally, we made new friends who have promised to keep in touch and help us to explore new aspects of our beautiful religion.

A Zone Wedding!
Shavuos celebrates the betrothal of G-d and the Jewish people through the giving of the Torah, but this Shavuos at TheZone, we celebrated a real wedding as well. The spouse of one of the TorahMates who joined us for Shavuos had just converted and the couple asked to be married at TheZone! So erev Shavuos, amid preparations for the big Yom Tov, we were celebrating the marriage of a new Jewish couple. A first for TheZone! May the newlyweds see much bracha in their bayis neeman b’Yisrael and may we share many more simchos together!

I Don’t Talk on the Phone on Shabbos
One of our TorahMates who will be joining us for Shavuos at TheZone tells us this story:
Still on her journey toward observance of Shabbos, Lisa* was at a point where she had to go to work on Friday night, but tried to do as few prohibitions as possible. Because she didn’t absolutely need her phone, she kept it turned off all Shabbos.
One Friday night, on her way home from work, a cop pulled Lisa over for using her handheld phone while driving. She protested that she couldn’t have been using her phone as she had turned it off for Shabbos. The cop gave her a ticket anyway.
In court, Lisa explained to the judge that she tried to keep Shabbos as best she could and she never turned on her phone on Shabbos. The phone company was able to verify that the phone had been turmed off at the time she was pulled over, and Lisa won the case!

Fiveish hour attracts thousands
The first hour of the Oorah-thon this year featured Fiveish hour, when Fiveish fans could call in to speak to Fiveish. We received an astronomical 30,000 calls during that one hour!

TheZone is filling up!
A few weeks before the camp season begins, TheZone registration is filling up, and fast! There are already 695 applicants to TheZone’s summer of 2012: 290 boys, 405 girls.
We’re looking forward to another successful summer at TheZone!!
