A Nachas Message from a Zone Counselor
I just called one of my campers to wish her a good Shabbos and her mother picked up and told me that she went to someone’s house for Shabbos, but she asked me if I can please email her the brachos for lighting candles, washing hands and making hamotzi. This is for a home that never kept Shabbos before… May this be the first of many!

We Want TheZone for Shabbat!
Anyone who has ever joined TheZone for Shabbos can readily appreciate this email a parent sent the camp office:
… my son hurt his arm in camp and was sent home two days ago… baruch Hashem he’s okay, no fracture.
My son wants to go back to camp so badly for Shabbat. Is there anyone who can take him tomorrow?
To this young man’s good fortune, a ride was found for him by TheZone’s dedicated staff.

Oorah’s Israel Branch
Did you know that Oorah’s got a division in Israel? And they’ve got their own blog too! For the Israelis among us, or anyone heading to Israel for a trip or the year, check out the Oorah Israel blog for more news, updates and other fun stuff.
Fiveish appears in Mishpacha Junior
Fiveish fans everywhere were delighted to see that the irrepressible five-dollar bill was featured in Mishpacha Jr. magazine last week!
In a piece titled “Fiveish on the Job,” Mishpacha writer Barbara Bensoussan interviewed Elchanan Schwarz about what it’s like playing Fiveish. Luckily for him, he only does the voices and doesn’t have to wear the hot costume.

Visiting Day Shabbat with Oorah
This past Shabbos, the families of campers and staff members at TheZone’s Girls Division joined for a beautiful Shabbat with Oorah at the boys campus. Dueling Rabbis, TorahMates sessions… it proved once again to be a great program that everyone enjoyed.
On Sunday, we all headed to the girls camp for a fun Visiting Day with the girls, including a delicious barbecue!
Here’s what one camper’s mom had to say:
“This Shabbos was amazing. Oorah really is a great organization and I am so glad that I went up for the weekend. I was so inspired by all of the people and the camp is just amazing. My daughter is sooo happy there. This is her third year there and it is still her favorite place to be. She is having another great summer thanks to Oorah. Thank you so much for all that you do there. I don’t know how this is all so organized in such a great way. I truly had a great time and look forward to spending more Shabbos with Oorah.”

Oorah’s TheZone impresses a local reporter
A reporter from a local newspaper near TheZone’s Girls Division camp came to visit the camp… and she was blown away by what she saw there! The fun, the warmth between the campers and the staff, the gorgeous grounds and exciting activities: TheZone worked its magic, as always.
Read what she wrote about Oorah’s TheZone camp in the Mountain Eagle.
TorahMates Men’s Retreat
It started with a hike up the mountain. By the time they had reached the top, they were all great friends.
Close to 100 men from all walks of life, young and old, joined together at Oorah’s TorahMates Men’s Retreat. For three days, the group bonded, over ball games, barbecues, hikes and Torah study.
It all culminated in a beautiful, inspiring, uplifting Shabbos.

The two greatest things about the Women’s Retreat
“I was one of the participants at the Oorah Women’s Retreat, and it was truly an amazing experience! The workshops, speeches, fun program, accommodations and food were truly out of this world. The work done by Mrs. Rokeach and the others was clear to see throughout the event. There are two aspects that really struck me and I think added so much to the enjoyment of the event.
1. All speeches, workshops, etc., were geared to all participants and I’m not sure anyone (aside for the people giving them) realized how hard it was, to speak to such a broad audience. After every event, I was amazed anew how the speakers managed to speak to everyone!
2. The schedule was so well-balanced with spiritual and fun, and it had the perfect blend of free time with scheduled time. I also realized that time was built in if something took longer than planned, which helped the relaxed flow of the retreat. This could not be done without LOTS of thought and planning.
Again, this was a truly amazing and inspiring experience which will stay with me for a lifetime, especially considering the friends that I made at the retreat and are already in contact with. Thank you again!”

Women’s “Advance”
Our first-ever Women’s Retreat was a phenomenal success! Led by Mrs. Chaya Rochel Rokeach, the retreat was both great fun and spiritually invigorating. The 120+ women enjoyed an electrifying concert together with TheZone’s Girls Division, a Zumba class with Mrs. Shimi Adar, a late-night bonfire, lots of discussions, TorahMates learning sessions and other exciting activities.
From Rabbi Yehoshua Weinstein, who worked for weeks beforehand to ensure that the event would be successful:
“The only complaint we are getting is, ‘it’s not fair- the Men’s Retreat is for longer’!”
One of the inspired participants remarked that it should be called a Women’s Advance instead of a Retreat because everyone has advanced!
Looking forward to another incredible retreat for the men, starting tonight!
