Just a few days after Pesach, the moving thank yous for Pesach at TheZone are already pouring into the Lakewood office. Here is a sample of just a few of those:

“… I have only a minute to quickly express how profoundly life-changing the experience was. I was floundering and going off the derech: having a very hard time as an isolated single mom living outside of a frum community. I feel like Oorah reached out with a net and scooped me out of danger’s way. Thank you so much for elevating my soul and reaching my heart…”

From a retired military officer, new to the Oorah family: “My family and I were just amazed at the camp and the wonderful program you had for us. The Seders were absolutely astounding… the food was literally “out of this world.” I have attended and even assisted in administering Passover retreats (for U.S. military personnel) and have never had such a wonderful Pesach retreat experience (and Pesach gourmet food!) We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and the wonderful outreach work you are conducting…”

“….We had the most amazing spiritual fun-filled Hag ever…..From the moment we arrived to saying good bye to new friends and old. My boys are Zone campers and now they have ZONE fever for their summer to begin…”

Tuesday night of Chol Hamoed Pesach found a group of Zoniacs from Canada ‘chillin’ on ice’! The group that usually can be found in the Aish building on Clark chilling and learning was instead in the Future Stars Arena. The arena was dimly lit so the disco lights could be seen but a more powerful shine was seen as girls of all ages whizzed by on skates to the sounds of Zone music. Cindy from Future Stars was extremely accomodating and made sure that everything (skates included) was ready when we arrived. When booking the ice she asked, “Do you need guides? Or will you be bringing your own staff?” The obvious answer was that our own staff would be there to help out! And what a staff they were! Wearing Zone hats, our staff made sure that everyone was safe and had a great time. Each girl left with a bag of chips, a bottle of water and a huge smile. One girl that has been coming to Chillzone asked her mother “Can I invite my whole class to MY program?”

This has been a wonderful experience for me and I am looking forward to starting the Hebrew and through it feel more like a Jew than a vagrant who knows nothing. My biggest regret is that I didn’t do something like this years ago and when I was a teen.

Thanks to Oorah I have the opportunity to learn all of this terrific information on our Jewish faith in such a fun way with great people helping me.

Oorah employees and their families were treated to a real bonus on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights before Pesach. Oorah sponsored supper for those two nights, a hard time for all Jewish families who are in the thick of Pesach preparations. With many homes already mostly Pesach’dik, a free supper out is a real help.

Tuesday night was dairy, with pizza (70 pies!) and fries from Pizza Plus and 15 dozen bagels, 28 pounds of tuna and 24 pounds of Israeli salad from Bagel Nosh. Wednesday’s meal, a lavish spread including seven different chicken dishes and a variety of sides came from the new D-lux restaurant. Supper was served buffet style in the warehouse next door to Oorah’s main office.

“This is a benefit that is very generous and considerate and my family and I greatly appreciate it! I believe I speak on behalf of all of Oorah’s grateful employees,” one woman enthused.

Judging by the happy faces all around, it seems that indeed she does.

I think Oorah is providing a wonderful service to Jewish people, especially the undereducated and those who drifted away for a long time. Like me. I think Oorah is blessed with volunteers such as Mr. S. He is priceless.

Have a wonderful Pesach. And thanks for the Pesach box that I received today. All the gift boxes serve as a reminder of our Jewish lifecycle events and holy day rhythym.
